Selvagem
Where architecture, landscape, and gastronomy intertwine, a sensory immersion in nature—at the heart of the city.
The Selvagem Restaurant is an architectural and landscape intervention conceived to reveal, at the heart of Ibirapuera Park, a convivial experience that celebrates nature, biodiversity, and gastronomy within the metropolis. The proposal is grounded in the principle of sensitively integrating the existing structure into the Atlantic Forest context, respecting the natural heritage and mature trees, and transforming a former support facility into an amenity that coexists harmoniously with the urban green landscape.
The project emphasizes sensory integration with its surroundings: every element — from botanical selection to spatial layout — articulates nature, comfort, and conviviality. The architecture repositions the building within a woodland clearing through an elevated wooden deck that preserves soil permeability and establishes a continuous space for gathering among trees, water, and native vegetation. A lightweight black metal roof structure creates shade and filtered light, enhancing the daytime experience without competing with the landscape.
The material language seeks simplicity and restraint: robust, neutral solutions that reinforce integration with nature and heighten the organic perception of place. Restrooms, access points, and the internal layout were reorganized to meet accessibility standards, expand capacity, and enhance comfort while maintaining a direct connection with the outdoors.
Landscape design is central to the project’s expression. Selected native species — including Ficus, Anthuriums, Philodendrons, and endangered Pati palms — create a lush micro-ecosystem that intensifies the sense of immersion, privacy, and tropical atmosphere. A reflective pond surrounded by ferns, bromeliads, and begonias completes the composition, contributing freshness, movement, and microclimatic comfort.
By articulating architecture, landscape, and gastronomy in a single gesture, the Selvagem Restaurant project proposes a new paradigm of urban conviviality — where dining transcends functionality and becomes a sensory encounter with nature, an oasis of well-being within one of the city’s most emblematic parks.
