4d Complex

Landscape and public space structuring the urban reactivation of Porto Alegre’s 4th District.

Located in the 4th District of Porto Alegre, a former industrial area currently undergoing urban transformation, the 4D Complex House emerges as a mixed-use development that brings together housing, culture, gastronomy, and retail, contributing to the economic and social revitalization of the region. PLANTAR’s role focused on the development of the landscape architecture project for the complex and the urban design of the public boulevard, conceived as an urban counterpart that strengthens the relationship between the development and the city.

The landscape strategy is based on the idea of creating an active and permeable ground floor, where open spaces, gathering areas, and vegetation structure everyday social life and encourage encounters between residents, visitors, and the surrounding community.

The boulevard was conceived as a requalified public promenade, reconfiguring Rua Almirante Tamandaré into a walkable urban axis that connects the 4th District to the Moinhos de Vento neighborhood. The intervention expands sidewalks, introduces urban tree planting, and creates areas for staying and social interaction, transforming the street into a more vibrant and welcoming urban space.

Integrated with the architectural ensemble — which includes a residential tower, retail areas, a restored cultural warehouse, and gastronomic spaces — the system of open spaces helps consolidate the development as a contemporary urban hub, where architecture, landscape, and culture activate public life.

The architectural project of the complex was nationally recognized after winning the 10th Saint-Gobain AsBEA Architecture Award, highlighting its proposal for urban revitalization and the integration between industrial heritage and new architecture.

A development where the active ground floor connects architecture to the life of the city
